As an avid crafter who has just entered my middle age life, I need a reading glasses earlier than any average people who uses less eye power. My eyesight has been deteriorating rapidly since my early 40’s, now I can hardly crochet, knit, or sew without putting on my reading glasses. Just like any glasses dependent person, I need a glasses pouch to carry my “eye-sharpener” where ever I go. Though there was a pouch came together when I prescribed the reading glasses, but I still prefer the old fashion glasses pouch. So, here I am, sharing the crochet pattern of the glasses pouch I designed by using the vintage squeeze flex frame.
I have fond feeling for this vintage squeeze flex frame. I used to play with my father’s glasses pouch when I was still a kid. Not only that it is one of my childhood toys, I like it because it is convenient to open and close the pouch with single hand, just squeeze the sides to open and it will snap shut again when you let go. Quick and practical, isn’t it?
Besides making it into glasses pouch, the crochet pattern and tutorial can be easily adapted to make a coin purse as a set to go with the glasses pouch. I made a few and embellished them with lace trims and appliques to personalize the design. You can find the crochet pattern in next page.
It doesn’t take up lots of yarn and time to crochet one. You can even use your left over stashed yarns to crochet. Add a fabric lining if you need it, just cut a piece of rectangle fabric of double the width plus 1/4″ seam allowance at each side, single the length (exclude the flex frame height) plus 1/4″ seam allowance at each side, fold and stitch along the length side, sew to attach the fabric lining into the pouch.
An eyeglasses applique to go with a glasses pouch, isn’t it perfect???
These pouches will be some great gifts to make for any occasion. Vary the sizes of the pouch to make it into something that suits the intended receiver.
Hope you enjoy making lots of them!
